Cursor + ratings

In-app rating prompts for your Cursor app

Ratings decide whether a store listing converts. WebViewGold lets your Cursor app show the native rating dialog (<code>rateapp://</code>) exactly when a user is happy: after a completed order, a finished workout, a saved project. You decide the moment in your web app; the native part is one call.

From $109 one-time per platform, or let our team do it all from $698.

How it works

Native dialog on iOS

rateapp:// shows Apple's SKStoreReviewController prompt. Apple limits how often it appears (about three times a year per user), so it is silent on some calls by design.

Rate dialog on Android

The same call shows a "Rate this app" dialog that opens your Play Store page (set RATE_MY_APP_URL in Config.java). Optionally WebViewGold asks automatically after N days and launches.

Your own pre-prompt

Ask "Enjoying the app?" in your Cursor UI first; send happy users to rateapp:// and unhappy ones to your feedback form in Your own API routes or services.

Prompt for Cursor

Paste this into Cursor to implement the web-app side. Review the result, publish, then test inside the WebViewGold app.

Prompt for the Cursor agent
Implement an in-app rating prompt for the WebViewGold native wrapper. Add requestReview() to lib/native.ts: it returns early unless navigator.userAgent contains "WebViewGold"; otherwise it sets window.location.href to 'rateapp://'. Add a server-side field rating_prompted_at on the user and an endpoint to read and set it. Create maybeAskForRating() that calls requestReview() only if the user was never asked, has at least three successful actions, and the current screen is a success state; call it 1.5 seconds after the main success screen renders. Add a settings row "Rate the app" linking to APP_STORE_URL or PLAY_STORE_URL by platform, hidden in the browser. Add unit tests for the guard and summarize the changes.

Great work! Never coded anything but managed to work with this. Easy and fast! Also with great help from the creators!

Add a rating flow to a Cursor app

About 20 minutes.

  1. Pick the happy moments

Completed purchase, third successful use, finished task. Never on first launch, never after an error.

  2. Add the pre-prompt

A small card in your web app: "Enjoying the app? Rate us" with Yes / Not really. Store the answer in Your own API routes or services so you ask once.

  3. Call the native dialog

On Yes, navigate to rateapp:// (only inside the app). On "Not really", open your feedback form.

  4. Configure the fallback

iOS: showcustomrateappdialog and ratemyappurl for a dialog that always appears and links to your store page. Android: RATE_MY_APP_URL, optional SHOW_RATE_DIALOG with days and launches thresholds.

  5. Measure

Watch ratings in App Store Connect and the Play Console; adjust the moment if the volume is low.

Store rules

  • Do not gate features behind leaving a review and do not ask for a specific star count.
  • Apple controls the frequency of the native prompt; do not try to work around it with repeated calls.
  • Respond to reviews in the store consoles; both stores show replies publicly.

Frequently asked questions

Why does rateapp:// sometimes show nothing on iOS?

Apple rate-limits the native prompt per user and year and also suppresses it during development. Use the custom dialog option if you need a guaranteed link to the store page.

Can I ask only paying users?

Yes. Your web app decides who sees the pre-prompt; the native call is only made for the users you choose.

Does the prompt work in TestFlight?

Apple does not display the native prompt in TestFlight builds; test the flow logic there and the real prompt in the App Store version.
