Reviewers switch on airplane mode. Users ride the subway. A Base44 app that shows a white page offline looks broken; a native offline screen with a retry button looks like an app. WebViewGold gives you three levels of offline support, and the right one depends on your stack (React front end generated by Base44 with Base44's own built-in database, authentication and integrations).

The three levels
1. Native offline screen
Default. When the device has no connection, WebViewGold shows a branded offline screen with a "Try again" button (offlinetitle, offlinemsg, offlinebuttontext) and reconnects automatically (offlinescreenautoretry). Zero work in Base44.
2. Cache and error states
The WebView caches your app's assets so repeat launches are fast. Add friendly error states in Base44 for requests to Base44 built-in entities (database), file storage and backend functions that fail mid-session, and keep form input when a request fails.
3. Local HTML fallback
Ship a static build (or a lightweight offline version) inside the app: offlinelocalhtmlswitch on iOS, FALLBACK_USE_LOCAL_HTML_FOLDER_IF_OFFLINE on Android. The app loads the remote URL when online and the local folder when offline. Ideal for content apps, manuals and catalogs.
Prompt for Base44
Paste this into Base44 to implement the web-app side. Review the result, publish, then test inside the WebViewGold app.
Prompt to paste into Base44
Improve how this app behaves when the connection drops; it will run inside a native mobile app that only shows its own offline screen when the very first page fails. 1) Add a thin banner at the top saying "You're offline" whenever navigator.onLine is false, using the browser's online and offline events. 2) On every page that loads records, show a card with "We couldn't load this. Check your connection." and a Retry button when loading fails, instead of a blank area or an endless spinner. 3) Keep forms filled in if saving fails and show "Not saved yet, try again". 4) Make sure the navigation and header always render even when data is missing.
With a good optimized version of your web app you can have a stunning mobile app within a couple of minutes. Additionally to that the customer service is very nice and very helpful! I can just recommend WebViewGold :-)

A good offline setup for a Base44 app
Level 1 takes two minutes; level 3 an afternoon.
Brand the offline screen
Set title, message, button text and background color in the config (or Cloud Builder). Mention what the user can do ("Reconnect to see your orders").
Add error states in Base44
Every data fetch to Base44 built-in entities (database), file storage and backend functions needs a failure state with a retry button, not an empty list. Time out after a few seconds instead of spinning forever.
Cache the last state
Show the last loaded dashboard numbers or list with a "last updated" note while offline; a service worker or local storage in your web app is enough.
Optional: bundle an offline version
Export a static build of the parts that make sense offline (help, catalog, saved items) into the local-html folder and switch the fallback on. Keep the remote URL as the primary source so updates stay instant.
Test in airplane mode
Launch cold, launch with a cached session, lose the connection mid-session, reconnect. This is exactly what the reviewer does.
Frequently asked questions
Will my Base44 app work fully offline?
Only with a local HTML folder (level 3) or a PWA designed for offline data. Apps that depend on Base44 built-in entities (database), file storage and backend functions show the offline screen until the connection is back, which is what reviewers expect.
Do service workers work inside the app?
The system WebView supports standard caching; WebViewGold's own offline screen does not depend on them. For guaranteed offline behavior, use the local HTML fallback.
Is the offline screen customizable?
Yes: text (in up to three languages), colors and the retry behavior are settings in the WebViewGold project.
