Comparison

Capacitor vs. WebViewGold: the honest comparison for vibe-coded apps

Both put your web app inside a native shell. The difference is who does the native work: with Capacitor it is you (or your AI agent, in two unfamiliar IDEs), with WebViewGold it is a finished template with settings, documentation, support and an approval guarantee.

When Capacitor is the better choice

Capacitor shines when you are a developer who wants to write native code: custom plugins, deep integration with native SDKs, a bundled offline-first app or a team that already maintains Xcode and Android Studio projects. Everything is open source and extensible without limits.

If that describes you, you do not need WebViewGold. Many agencies use both: Capacitor for bespoke native work, WebViewGold when the client needs a store app of an existing web product next week.

When WebViewGold is the better choice

You built the app in Lovable, Bolt, v0, Replit, Base44 or with an AI editor, it works in the browser, and you want it in the stores without learning two native toolchains. You want to keep shipping from your builder without resubmitting the app for every change. You want push notifications, login handling, IAP and offline behavior without searching for plugins. You want somebody to ask at 2 a.m. and a guarantee behind the submission.

Capacitor tutorials for Lovable and Bolt circulate in the communities and they work, but they end where the real effort begins: provisioning profiles, permission strings, Android signing, Play Console policies, the Google login problem, App Store review feedback. WebViewGold has answered those questions since 2014, and the tool-specific guides walk you through the rest.

Great work! Never coded anything but managed to work with this. Easy and fast! Also with great help from the creators!

Questions to decide quickly

  • Do you want to write Swift/Kotlin now or later? No → WebViewGold.
  • Must the app work fully offline with bundled data? Yes → Capacitor (or WebViewGold with a local HTML folder, if a static build is enough).
  • Do you need a Mac-free iOS build? Yes → WebViewGold Cloud Builder.
  • Will you change the web app weekly? Yes → remote URL, which WebViewGold does by default.
  • Do you need a custom native SDK no plugin exists for? Yes → Capacitor.

Frequently asked questions

Is a WebViewGold app "less native" than a Capacitor app?

Both use the same system WebView (WKWebView on iOS, Android System WebView). The native shell, permissions, push registration and store packaging are what differ, and both produce a real native binary that passes the same review.

Can I migrate from Capacitor to WebViewGold or back?

Yes. Your web app does not change. Keep the same bundle identifier and package name and you can ship the next version with the other wrapper; users just see an update.

Does Apple treat Capacitor and WebViewGold apps differently?

No. Apple reviews behavior and content. Guideline 4.2 (minimum functionality) applies to both, which is why WebViewGold ships native features you can enable in minutes.
