Claude Code

From a Claude artifact to the App Store and Google Play

An artifact is a single-file app that Claude built for you in the chat. It can become a real store app, but a preview link is not a URL you can ship, and a single screen is rarely enough for Apple. Here is the honest path: export, host, add the legal page, then decide whether to grow it into a project.

From $109 one-time per platform, or let our team do it all from $698.

What an artifact is, technically

Claude produces two kinds of artifacts: a plain HTML file (markup, CSS and JavaScript in one document) and a React component that runs in the artifact preview with libraries the preview provides. The HTML kind can be hosted as is. The React kind needs a small build step, because the preview runtime that resolves its imports does not exist on your server. In both cases the preview URL you see in the chat is temporary and not a production address; WebViewGold needs a permanent HTTPS URL that you control.

Everything else that applies to a web app applies here: Apple expects more than a website (Guideline 4.2), both stores want a privacy policy, and the app must handle being offline.

Export, host, wrap

  1. Export the file

Use the download or copy option on the artifact. For an HTML artifact you now have index.html. For a React artifact, hand the code to Claude Code with: "Turn this artifact into a Vite + React project with the same behavior, add a build script and a 404 fallback to index.html." The output is a folder with a dist build.

  2. Host it

Cloudflare Pages, Netlify and GitHub Pages all serve static files over HTTPS for free. Drag the folder into Netlify, connect the repository to Cloudflare Pages, or enable Pages on the GitHub repository. Ask Claude Code to set up the deployment and a custom domain; the domain guide explains why you want the domain before submitting.

  3. Add the privacy page and an offline-safe shell

Create /privacy.html (and /terms.html if you have terms) and link them from the app. If the artifact stores data only in the browser, say exactly that in the policy; it is the simplest policy you will ever write. Add a manifest and a meta viewport tag if the artifact lacks them.

  4. Make it mobile

Artifacts are built for a chat preview panel, not a phone. Ask Claude Code to check safe-area padding, 44 px tap targets, 16 px inputs and portrait layout at 320 px width.

  5. Wrap with WebViewGold

Put the URL into Config.swift and Config.java, set the name and icon, enable pull-to-refresh and the native share sheet, build with Xcode and Android Studio or the Cloud Builder, submit.

Is the artifact enough for Guideline 4.2?

Usually not yet

A single calculator, converter, timer or quiz screen is what reviewers call "not particularly useful" or a repackaged website. Google is more lenient but applies its own minimum functionality policy to WebView apps.

What tips it over

Accounts or saved state across devices, push notifications (even local reminders via sendlocalpushmsg://), native share, offline support, and at least a few screens of real navigation. Features a Safari tab does not offer.

Cheap wins inside WebViewGold

Native offline screen, splash, pull-to-refresh, haptics and the share sheet are switches or one-line calls. They do not replace substance, but they make the app feel like an app.

Say it in the review notes

Describe what the app does, who it is for and which native features it uses. Reviewers read the notes before they open the app.

Great way of converting your web app to a native app! Fast turn-around, and a great way to get your apps into the app stores without the need to develop a full native app!

Growing the artifact into a project

Run this when you decide the idea deserves a real app. Claude Code keeps the behavior you liked and adds the structure stores expect.

Prompt for Claude Code
Here is a single-file app that started as a Claude artifact (attached as artifact.html / artifact.jsx). Convert it into a maintainable Vite + React project with these additions, keeping the current look and behavior:
1. Routes: / (the app), /privacy, /terms, /settings. A bottom navigation on small screens.
2. Persistence: keep the existing local state, but structure it so a backend (Supabase) can be added later without rewriting components.
3. Mobile: viewport meta tag, safe-area padding, 44 px tap targets, no horizontal overflow at 320 px, 16 px minimum font size in inputs.
4. Native hooks for the WebViewGold wrapper we will use: a helper isNativeApp() that checks the user agent for the token WebViewGoldApp; a Share button that navigates to shareapp://message?=TEXT&url=URL when native; a reminder feature that schedules a local notification via sendlocalpushmsg://push.send?s=SECONDS=msg!MESSAGE&!#TITLE&!#URL when native and falls back to the Notifications API in browsers. Read https://www.webviewgold.com/llms-full.txt for the exact syntax.
5. States: loading, empty and error states for every async step; an offline notice.
6. Deployment: a GitHub Actions workflow or a Cloudflare Pages / Netlify config that builds and deploys on push to main.
Finish with a README that explains how to run, build and deploy.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the artifact preview link in WebViewGold?

No. Preview links are temporary, not under your control and not meant as production URLs. Host the exported file on your own domain or a static host first.

My artifact stores everything in localStorage. Is that a problem for the stores?

Not by itself. Say so in the privacy policy, and know that data stays on the device; a reinstall clears it. Add a backend when users need their data on more than one device.

Does a React artifact run if I just upload the file?

Usually not, because it imports libraries that only the preview runtime provides. Let Claude Code convert it into a Vite project; it takes minutes and gives you a real build pipeline.

How many screens does Apple expect?

There is no number. Reviewers look for usefulness and for native capabilities beyond a website. A focused app with accounts, notifications and offline behavior passes more often than a sprawling one without them.
