Cursor + home screen
The home screen is where an app proves it is more than a bookmark. On iOS, WebViewGold gives your Cursor app four ways to live there: an image widget your server keeps current, quick actions on a long press of the icon, Siri phrases that run your JavaScript, and alternate app icons. Android has no WebViewGold equivalent for widgets and quick actions, so this guide also covers the honest alternatives there.
From $109 one-time per platform, or let our team do it all from $698.
A home screen widget that shows an SVG or PNG your server renders: today's numbers, the next booking, a streak. Your web app points it at an image with widget://https://yourdomain.com/widget.svg?t=TOKEN; widgetRefreshTime (minutes) and widgetfallbackURL in Config.swift set the refresh interval and the fallback image.
Set useShortcuts to true in Config.swift and define actions in Shortcuts.json: a title, a redirection_link, optional JavaScript injection and an SF Symbol. Users see them when they long-press the app icon.
With the optional Siri add-on (sold separately; you enter its plugin token in siriEnabled), a link such as addtosiri://?command=Log%20Water&jsFunction=logWater() lets the user add a phrase that runs a JavaScript function in your web app.
Ship up to three alternative icons (dark, classic, seasonal) and let users switch with changeicon://icon1 to changeicon://icon3, or back with changeicon://default. iOS confirms each change with a system notice.
Paste this into Cursor to implement the web-app side. Review the result, publish, then test inside the WebViewGold app.
Prompt for the Cursor agent: Add web and config support for WebViewGold's iOS home screen features. 1) In src/lib/webviewgold.ts add isIOSApp() (our custom WebViewGold token in navigator.userAgent plus iPhone or iPad), updateWidget(url) that navigates to "widget://" + url, setAppIcon(name) for changeicon://icon1, icon2, icon3 or default, and addSiriPhrase(phrase, fnName) that navigates to addtosiri://?command=ENCODED_PHRASE&jsFunction=fnName(). 2) Add a backend route /widget.svg?t=TOKEN that renders the user's key metric as an SVG, authenticated by a rotating per-user token instead of the session cookie. 3) Call updateWidget once per session after login. 4) Generate Shortcuts.json for the WebViewGold Xcode project with three entries (title, redirection_link on our production domain with ?source=shortcut, empty injection, a valid SF Symbol) and list the symbol names you used. 5) Expose window.startQuickTimer() globally as a Siri target. 6) Never call these schemes outside the iOS app, and document this in .cursor/rules.
Great way of converting your web app to a native app! Fast turn-around, and a great way to get your apps into the app stores without the need to develop a full native app!
Each of these features should save the user a step. Good fits for typical vibe-coded apps:
Next appointment, next class, next delivery window. A widget image rendered by Your own API routes or services answers "when is it?" without opening the app.
Habit streaks, savings goals, sales today, words written. One big number and a label read well at widget size.
Quick actions like "New entry", "Scan receipt" or "Today" open the right screen directly, so the app feels faster than the website.
Siri phrases for "Start workout", "Log a glass of water" or "Play my station", where tapping is inconvenient.
Alternate icons as a small reward for subscribers or a dark-mode icon for people who care about their home screen.
Half a day including the widget image endpoint.
Add an endpoint in Your own API routes or services that returns an SVG or PNG for one user: one number or one line of text, large and high-contrast, no tiny labels. Keep it fast and cheap; it is fetched again on every refresh.
The widget fetches the image outside your logged-in web view, so give each user an unguessable widget token, put it in the URL and let them rotate it. Never put a plain user ID in the URL.
After login, inside the iOS app only, navigate once to widget://https://yourdomain.com/widget.svg?t=TOKEN. Set widgetfallbackURL to a branded image for logged-out users and pick a sensible widgetRefreshTime; iOS budgets widget reloads, so expect "fresh within the hour", not real time.
Follow the video guide in the iOS documentation to enable the widget extension in the WebViewGold Xcode project, then add the widget from the home screen gallery on a real iPhone.
Write two to four entries in Shortcuts.json that point to deep pages of your Cursor app (add ?source=shortcut for analytics). The list ships inside the app, so changing it needs a new build; the pages it opens can change with every deploy.
Put alternative icons into the AppIconAlternate folder and add the CFBundleAlternateIcons entries to Info.plist exactly as the dynamic app icon docs show. For Siri, request the plugin token as described in the Siri docs.
Placed in the WebViewGold iOS project and enabled with useShortcuts = true (see the shortcut docs). The injection field runs JavaScript after the page loads, here to open a scanner view your web app exposes.

Not through WebViewGold. The widget, Shortcuts.json quick actions, Siri phrases and alternate icons are features of the iOS project. On Android, use push notifications that open a specific URL, App Links and the share target; a native Android widget is possible as custom work in the Android Studio project you receive, but it is not a documented WebViewGold feature.
It shows an image that your server renders, reloaded on the interval you set in widgetRefreshTime. iOS budgets widget refreshes, so treat it as recent rather than real time. The widget has no buttons of its own; tapping it opens the app.
It supports the Guideline 4.2 argument because it is something a website cannot do, as long as it shows useful content from the app. Put it in a screenshot and mention it in the review notes so the reviewer actually looks for it.
Siri is an optional add-on sold separately: you receive a plugin token to enter in siriEnabled and add the Siri capability to the target. The widget, quick actions and alternate icons are documented features of the iOS project.
The list lives in Shortcuts.json inside the app, so adding or renaming an action needs a new build. The pages the actions open are normal URLs of your Cursor app, so what they show changes with every deploy.
Same result, different amount of work on your side. All three come with the approval guarantee and 24/7 human support.
