Gemini CLI → Google Play

Turn your Gemini CLI app into an Android app and publish it on Google Play

Gemini CLI built and deployed it from your terminal. The App Store is one URL and one build away. Your Gemini CLI app already runs in the browser. WebViewGold wraps the published URL in a native Android app shell, adds push notifications and other native features, and backs the submission with a Google Play approval guarantee. You keep building in Gemini CLI; every publish updates the app instantly.

From $109 one-time per platform, or let our team do it all from $698.

  • Approval guarantee – or money back within 14 days
  • No coding needed

Why wrapping beats rebuilding for Gemini CLI apps

A Gemini CLI project ends as a Firebase Hosting, App Hosting or Cloud Run deployment, so the last step of your workflow already produces the URL WebViewGold needs. Asking the agent for a Flutter or Kotlin port would mean a second codebase against the same Firestore data and Cloud Functions, and the Gemini key would move into an app binary where it does not belong. Wrapping the deployment keeps model calls on your server, keeps one codebase in GEMINI.md's care, and every new deploy reaches installed apps without a store review.

One codebase, real store app

The Android app loads your published Gemini CLI URL inside a native WebView. There is no second project to maintain and no code export.

Keep shipping from Gemini CLI

Run your deploy command again and the app shows the new version on the next launch. Only changes to the native shell itself (icon, new native feature) need a store update.

Native features on top

Push notifications, offline screen, native sharing, biometric login, QR scanner, in-app purchases and deep links are single settings or one-line JavaScript calls.

Google Play approval guarantee

Google Play Store approval guarantee – or your money back within 14 days. 96.4% of all WebViewGold apps get approved by the review teams on the first attempt.

What you need

  • A published Gemini CLI app on a public HTTPS URL (yourproject.web.app or a run.app address or, better, your own domain)
  • An Google Play Console developer account ($25 one-time) to submit to the Google Play Store
  • Android Studio on Windows, macOS or Linux – or the WebViewGold Cloud Builder in your browser
  • WebViewGold for Android ($109 one-time, free updates)
  • A privacy policy page, a 1024 × 1024 px icon and 30 to 60 minutes

WebViewGold has allowed us the shortest and most efficient time-to-market ever possible from among all the other app platforms we have ever tried during the past 5 years. I don’t know why I hadn’t discovered you sooner, but I am really, really glad I did. Currently nearing 6000 app downloads on both iOS App Store & Google Play Store without any problem!

Gemini CLI to Google Play: the walkthrough

Eight steps, no coding. Most people finish the native part in under an hour.

  1. Publish your Gemini CLI app to a production URL

Deploy from the terminal: the Firebase extension's /firebase:deploy command publishes to Firebase Hosting or App Hosting, gcloud run deploy --source . ships the app to Cloud Run, or push to GitHub and deploy with Vercel or Netlify. The live URL (or your domain) is what you insert into WebViewGold. Cloud Shell web preview links (cloudshell.dev), Firebase preview channels and localhost expire. Use the live channel or your own domain. Custom domain: Connect your domain in the Firebase console (Hosting or App Hosting) or map it to the Cloud Run service, then set the DNS records. See why a custom domain before submission is worth it.

  2. Make it store-ready

Add a privacy policy page, an account deletion option (if users can sign up), and remove builder badges or "download our app" banners. Run the free Google Play readiness check on your URL: it flags mixed content, missing viewport tags, builder preview domains and other blockers in seconds.

  3. Get WebViewGold for Android

One-time payment, free updates. You receive the ready-made Android Studio project, or activate the WebViewGold Cloud Builder and skip the IDE entirely.

  4. Insert your URL and brand the app

Open Config.java (or the Cloud Builder form), paste your published URL, set the app name, choose your package name, upload the icon and pick the splash screen. No coding needed.

  5. Switch on native features

Enable push notifications, the offline screen, pull-to-refresh, biometric login, the QR scanner or App Links with single settings. Everything is optional.

  6. Build the signed App Bundle

In Android Studio: Build → Generate Signed Bundle. In the Cloud Builder: click Build and the signed .aab is prepared and uploaded for you.

  7. Create the Play Console listing

Create the app in the Play Console, fill in the store listing, upload icon, feature graphic and screenshots, complete Data safety, content rating and app access.

  8. Test, then submit

New personal accounts run a 14-day closed test with 12 testers first. Then promote the release to production and submit for review. Our approval guarantee covers you.

Gemini CLI-specific checks before you submit

These are the points that come up most often with Gemini CLI projects (Any web stack; Gemini CLI projects are often Next.js, React + Vite, Angular or Flask apps deployed on Firebase or Google Cloud).

  • Keep the Gemini API key out of the browser bundle: route model calls through Cloud Run, a Cloud Function or another server route. A key in client code can be read from the published app.
  • Write the WebViewGold constraints into GEMINI.md (runs inside a native WebView, no "Download our app" banners, /privacy page, account deletion) so every session respects them; /memory show confirms the file is loaded.
  • Google sign-in through Firebase Authentication or Identity Platform is blocked in embedded WebViews (disallowed_useragent); enable WebViewGold's Social Login Helper instead of rewriting the login flow.
  • Cloud Run scales to zero by default. Set a minimum instance or turn on the WebViewGold loading indicator so a cold start does not look like a frozen app during review.
  • If the app generates text or images with Gemini, add moderation and a report option: Apple checks AI output under Guideline 1.2 and Google Play's AI-generated content policy expects in-app reporting.

Let Gemini CLI do the store-readiness work

Paste this into Gemini CLI and let it apply the changes reviewers look for. Review the result, then publish.

Prompt for Gemini CLI
This web app will be published as native iOS and Android apps that load its production URL inside the WebViewGold WebView wrapper. First fetch https://www.webviewgold.com/llms-full.txt with your web fetch tool and use only the URL schemes and JavaScript variables documented there; do not invent native APIs.
1. Ensure a meta viewport tag, no horizontal overflow from 320px to 1024px, 44px tap targets and safe-area-inset padding on fixed headers and footers.
2. Move every Gemini or other model API call to a server route (Cloud Run or a Cloud Function) and remove keys from client code.
3. Add /privacy and /terms pages linked from the footer, and a "Delete account" action in settings that removes the user's data and auth record after confirmation.
4. Remove "Download our app" banners and external promotional links from the main navigation; add retry states for failed requests.
5. List every Google or Facebook sign-in flow and the URLs it redirects through, so I can configure the Social Login Helper.
6. Add a short "Native app wrapper" section with these rules to GEMINI.md.
7. Show me the deploy command you would run, but do not deploy until I confirm. Summarize every change.

Google Play review: the rules that matter for Gemini CLI apps

Google reviews behavior, not tooling. Nobody is rejected for using Gemini CLI; apps are rejected for the points below.

  • Minimum functionality

    Spam and minimum functionality policy

Google rejects apps that only wrap a website without the website owner's permission or that offer no real functionality. Wrapping your own product with added native features is fine.

  • Data safety

    User Data policy

Every app needs a privacy policy URL and a completed Data safety form that lists what the app and its SDKs collect.

  • Account deletion

    User Data policy

Apps that let users create accounts must offer account deletion inside the app and via a web link you provide in the Play Console.

  • Testing requirement

    Personal developer accounts

Personal accounts created after November 2023 must run a closed test with at least 12 testers for 14 continuous days before they can request production access.

  • Target API level

    Target API requirements

New apps must target a recent Android version. WebViewGold updates keep the template current; just build with the latest version.

  • Payments

    Google Play Billing

Digital goods and subscriptions sold in the app generally must use Google Play Billing (WebViewGold supports RevenueCat). Physical goods and services may use other payment methods.

Native features your Gemini CLI app gets in the Android app

Every feature is optional and documented step by step in the WebViewGold for Android documentation.

Pre-flight checklist for Google Play

Tick these off and the review is a formality. The free readiness check verifies the technical half automatically.

  • HTTPS everywhere: Android blocks cleartext http:// traffic by default on current versions.
  • Responsive layout from 320 px to tablet widths, with predictable back-button behavior (WebViewGold maps the back button to the web history).
  • Privacy policy URL ready and the Data safety form answered truthfully.
  • Account deletion inside the app plus a web deletion link if users can sign up.
  • App access credentials for the reviewer if content is behind a login.
  • A unique package name (for example com.yourcompany.yourapp) set before the first upload: it can never change afterwards.
  • A 512 × 512 px icon and a 1024 × 500 px feature graphic.
  • At least two phone screenshots taken from the real app (tablet screenshots recommended).
  • For new personal accounts: 12 testers lined up for the 14-day closed test.
  • Signed Android App Bundle (.aab) built from the latest WebViewGold version.

Example: from Gemini CLI project to approved app

Say you built a plant-care assistant with Gemini CLI: users photograph a plant, a Cloud Run route sends the photo to the Gemini API and returns care tips, and Firestore keeps each plant with its watering schedule. You deploy with /firebase:deploy to App Hosting, connect plants.yourdomain.com and wrap it with WebViewGold, so the native camera and file picker handle the photo upload. A local push scheduled with sendlocalpushmsg:// reminds users to water, and a report link under every tip covers Apple's Guideline 1.2 and Google's AI-generated content policy. The demo account in the review notes already holds three plants. Both stores approve the app, and each new deploy from the terminal reaches it without a store update.

Your first week after launch

  • Watch the Cloud Run logs in launch week; if the first request after a quiet night is slow, set a minimum instance instead of letting new users wait for a cold start.
  • Keep GEMINI.md current with the WebViewGold bridge calls you use, so later sessions do not remove them while refactoring.
  • Check Gemini API usage per user and add a daily limit before one enthusiastic user, or a script, runs up your bill.
  • When a user changes a watering schedule, cancel the old reminders with sendlocalpushmsg://push.send.cancel and schedule the new ones.
  • Ask for a rating with rateapp:// after a plant gets its first good check-up, not on the first launch.

What you get with WebViewGold

A complete native app project, not a subscription. Everything below is included in the license and switched on with a setting.

  • Complete Android Studio project
  • Push notifications
  • Offline screen
  • App icon & splash screen
  • Share sheet & haptics
  • Deep & universal links
  • In-app purchases
  • Free updates, white-label

Frequently asked questions

How do I turn a Gemini CLI project into an App Store app?

Deploy it to a public HTTPS URL (Firebase Hosting, App Hosting, Cloud Run or any other host), insert that URL into WebViewGold for iOS, build with Xcode or the Cloud Builder and submit through App Store Connect. The Android app uses the same URL with WebViewGold for Android.

I was moved from Gemini CLI to Antigravity CLI. Does that change anything for my app?

No. Since June 18, 2026, free and Google AI Pro or Ultra accounts use Antigravity CLI instead of Gemini CLI, but that only changes the agent you type into. Your code, your Firebase or Cloud Run deployment and the URL inside the store app stay the same; just check how the new tool loads your project context file.

Can Gemini CLI add native features through WebViewGold?

Yes. Gemini CLI can fetch the WebViewGold llms-full.txt and wire push registration, haptics, the share sheet, QR scanning or biometric login into your web code, because the JavaScript bridge is plain URL schemes and JavaScript variables.

Do I need Android Studio?

Either Android Studio (free, runs on Windows, macOS and Linux) or the WebViewGold Cloud Builder, which builds and uploads the signed App Bundle from your browser.

What is the 12-tester rule?

Google requires personal developer accounts created after November 2023 to run a closed test with at least 12 opted-in testers for 14 continuous days before the first production release. Friends, colleagues or a Discord community are enough; organization accounts are exempt.

What if Google rejects the app?

Google names the policy in question and you can fix and resubmit. WebViewGold comes with a Google Play approval guarantee: if Google rejects the app for a non-content reason, you get your money back within 14 days of purchase.

Firebase Hosting, App Hosting or Cloud Run: which one should the store app load?

Any of them works, because WebViewGold only needs a public HTTPS URL. Pick by app type: Firebase Hosting for static and single-page apps, App Hosting for Next.js or Angular with server rendering, Cloud Run when you deploy your own container or API. Connect a custom domain either way, so you can move between them later by changing DNS instead of shipping new app builds.

Does Google sign-in through Firebase Authentication work inside the app?

Yes, with WebViewGold's Social Login Helper: add accounts.google.com to google_login_helper_triggers (iOS) and GOOGLE_LOGIN_HELPER_TRIGGERS (Android), and the Google step opens in a login window that Google accepts, then returns to your app. For the iOS app, also enable the Apple provider in Firebase Authentication to meet Guideline 4.8; WebViewGold detects Sign in with Apple automatically.

Do I have to resubmit the app every time I change something in Gemini CLI?

No. The app loads your published URL, so content and feature changes you publish in Gemini CLI are live in the app immediately. A new store version is only needed when the native shell changes, for example a new app icon or an added native feature.

What does it cost in total?

$109 one-time for WebViewGold for Android (free updates) plus the Google Play Console developer account ($25 one-time). Optional: the Cloud Builder add-on ($349 per license, one-time) if you want to build in the browser without a Mac, or the Full Service package (from $698 per platform) where our team configures, builds and submits the app for you.
